REGIONAL HERITAGE · RESEARCH & TECHNOLOGY

Keep the story.
Keep the evidence.

Poroset is developing a research workspace for regional foods, crafts and the knowledge behind them. We connect cultural stories to their sources, so they can be understood, checked and carried forward.

More than
an object.

Local knowledge deserves more than a story without a source. Poroset brings the story and its evidence together.

Information about traditional products is scattered across inventories, archives and accounts. We are building a way to organise it into useful research records: what a source supports, where it comes from and what still needs investigating. Our starting point is the food and craft heritage of Türkiye.

When a product disappears,
a body of knowledge falls silent.

POR-001Food culture

Turkish coffee

Preparation, hospitality and the sharing of knowledge.

Evidence and open questions

What the source supports

  • UNESCO Representative List entry: 2013.
  • The record describes finely ground coffee brewed slowly.
  • Knowledge is passed on through family observation and participation.

Next research question

How do preparation and serving practices vary between local communities?

POR-002Ceramic craft

Çini craftsmanship

Glazed tiles and ceramics as a living craft.

Evidence and open questions

What the source supports

  • UNESCO Representative List entry: 2016.
  • Çini includes handmade glazed tiles and ceramics.
  • Plant, animal and geometric motifs feature in the documented practice.

Next research question

Which workshop-specific techniques can makers document and share with permission?

POR-003Stone craft

Ahlat stonework

Material knowledge and skills that need safeguarding.

Evidence and open questions

What the source supports

  • UNESCO Urgent Safeguarding List entry: 2022.
  • The craft uses volcanic stone extracted near Mount Nemrut.
  • The record identifies apprentice shortages and modern materials as threats.

Next research question

What do today’s practitioners identify as their most urgent transmission needs?

Led by curiosity.
Grounded in sources.

The public pilot uses desk research from published heritage records. The same structure guides the research workspace we are developing.

01

Find sources

Start with attributed inventories, institutional records and research. Preserve the link and document identifier.

02

Separate claims

Record each supported fact separately. A source’s publication or listing date is not proof of a tradition’s origin.

03

Show the limits

Keep documented information apart from inference, oral accounts and questions that still need research.

04

Share responsibly

Make records accessible across languages. Future interviews and community contributions require permission and attribution.

Useful to those
who carry it forward.

We are exploring how structured research can support the people who make, study and communicate regional heritage.

01PRODUCT CONTEXT

Producers & cooperatives

A clearer basis for explaining the traditions behind their products, with sources and careful attribution.

02CULTURAL CONTEXT

Heritage organisations

Structured material for interpretation, learning resources and future documentation projects.

03RESEARCH CONTEXT

Researchers & editors

Traceable starting points for further research, multilingual briefs and questions for fieldwork.

A clear starting point.
A focused next step.

Available now

Browse three source-linked records in three languages, inspect their evidence and download the structured index. This public pilot uses curated text; it does not call an AI service.

Planned with Claude

We plan to use the Claude API to extract candidate claims from supplied documents, return document citations, compare conflicting accounts and draft translations for human review. No AI integration is live yet.

How we will evaluate it

Measure whether sources actually support each claim, how well the system flags missing evidence, translation accuracy and reviewer time. An AI-generated citation will not be treated as proof by itself.

Business model under exploration

Paid research briefs and a subscription workspace for producers and heritage teams. Pricing and demand still need validation; the public pilot is free.
